We are committed to:
- Acting honestly, truthfully, and with integrity in all our actions.
- Equitable treatment and elimination of discrimination in all its forms, at all organizational levels, and throughout all programs.
- Avoiding conflicts of interest.
- Recognition of the rights of all individuals to mutual respect, dignity, and fair treatment; acceptance of others without bias based on differences of any kind.
- Being responsible, transparent, and accountable for all our decisions and their outcomes.
- Acting with compassion for and consideration of all living beings in our decision-making.
- Good faith stewardship of the Coalition, and of the Earth as a community and a resource.
- Minimizing our consumption of natural resources.
- Improving the accountability, transparency, ethical conduct, and efficacy within the field of humane education.
These are the enduring values that empower us to act with clarity of purpose. We uphold these values in our work and promote them in the field of humane education as a whole. They represent what we believe in, what we stand for, and how we approach everything we do as an organization.
Accessibility & Inclusivity
We believe in reducing barriers between our constituents and the tools they need to learn, teach, and thrive. Learning should have no limits. To ensure accessibility and promote inclusivity, we do not charge mandatory fees to join the Coalition, take advantage of our programs, or take part in our initiatives.
Diversity
We acknowledge and honor the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals. We believe in the strength of diversity and the significant value that cross-cultural collaboration has in a social change movement. We pledge ourselves to creating an environment that respects diverse backgrounds, values, and experiences, both internally and externally. In addition, creating diverse and high-quality learning experiences will support growth among a wide range of partners with unique needs.
Intention
In all Coalition activities, we remain true to our mission to advance the field of humane education. We work diligently to produce quality programs, provide exceptional service to our constituents, and maximize the support of our donors while maintaining focus on our vision of a compassionate and sustainable future for all people, animals, and the planet.
Cooperation
We believe a global network of partners committed to furthering humane education is essential to achieve the better world we individually work toward. A strong and collaborative partnership requires teamwork, communication, respect, trust, and accountability. Our innovative partnerships and strategic initiatives support a progressive, collective impact.
Distinction
We raise the bar in the field of humane education. Professional achievement is at the core of everything we do. Our representation of excellence in all our endeavors inspires others to succeed. Encouraging professional growth, outstanding service, and a commitment to achievement will empower others to make impactful contributions to our collective efforts worldwide.
Ingenuity
We approach problems with new solutions. In all our strategies, we consider world affairs and current trends in education. We challenge the status quo with creative, innovative, evidence-based approaches that meet the needs of our global network.

We developed a 5-year strategic plan to provide a roadmap for programs, support, and organizational development. This plan was developed with broad involvement and guidance from the Coalition’s Board of Directors and Advisory Council. Development of the plan included regular communication to reflect on the mission, vision, core operating values, and assumptions underlying the organization’s approach to its work.
A feasibility study and environmental scan were conducted, including interviews and focus groups with community stakeholders and prospective partners, to help the Coalition determine both the challenges and the opportunities it is likely to face over the next five years and set the context for the choices reflected in this plan. The Board of Directors will review progress quarterly and will update the plan annually as needed.
